This Summer's ServiceNow Internship Updates
ServiceNow is a software company that develops a cloud computing platform to help companies manage digital workflows for enterprise operations. ServiceNow has partnered with A Bridge for Kids since 2019 to teach our students the basics of coding and technical programming skills. In the first half of the internship, students are taught the basic understanding and tools of programming, and then are tasked with developing an app to solve a problem that they face in their day to day lives. Here are some updates on how our students' experiences are going thus far!
Ava:
The ServiceNow summer program was super awesome. Even though I took the AP Computer Science Principles class (a supposedly advanced and thorough course) at my school last year, I think the majority of the subjects that we learned in this summer camp I had never heard of before. I absolutely loved Chris and Juan. They ran this program and put a lot of time and effort into making sure that we learn the material. I really liked that in addition to learning how to code, we also gained some pretty important information about actually learning potential careers. The exposure to all of these fields was very cool. I loved my mentor, Ms. Tucker, as well. Whenever I had a question, she would make sure to answer the question completely--sometimes even going above and beyond by presenting a Powerpoint. In our last meeting, some experts in the tech field came to talk about their journey. It was very inspiring to hear their stories.
I know that the paragraph above is definitely more than a few sentences, but I feel like this program deserves it. ServiceNow did a great job at teaching and at bringing its employees' experiences to us students. I'm definitely more hyped about tech now. I hope that this program continues because I really loved it and I would recommend it to anyone who's trying to find some possible career guidance and who's excited to learn code.

A few things I liked about the program were the flexibility, project-based learning, and support from mentors and instructors. I liked the flexibility of which programming language, libraries, and frameworks to use for my project. Project-based learning with a final project allowed us to show what we learned in a final project. Mentors and instructors were available to provide extra learning resources and support so that students could complete their projects.
Overall the ServiceNow scholars program was a great experience and would recommend it to others if the program continues next summer.

The ServiceNow Program has been going really well. I've learned a lot about coding, website development, and so much more in these past 9 weeks. Not only have I learned about all these technical skills, but I have also learned how to better my social skills, build relationships, and manage my stress through meetings with my mentor. I am so grateful to have been selected to participate in this amazing program and to have met my fellow scholars and instructors. This program has helped fuel my passion for coding, and it has made me want to pursue a career in computer science/software engineering. The knowledge that I have accumulated throughout this program will definitely stick with me in my future career and life. Thank you!

The ServiceNow experience has been great. I started this internship with little knowledge of coding as I didn’t code for 3 years prior to this internship. Over time, I learned how to read computer coding languages and code. It was very fun to see I could create projects and other various things with the knowledge of coding. I didn’t just learn coding though, I got to learn background knowledge towards websites like frontend, backend, and database. This whole experience was great and it was amazing to be placed with an amazing mentor.
Darren:
The experience so far is great. The instructor, Juan, really focuses on teaching the fundamentals of web design. Also, the project is very engaging, as we have to find our own problems and solve them using what we have learned.
