Teens Gearing Up for College Campus Tours

A Bridge For Kids is planning 3 summer tours for San Diego‘s low-income teens who, unlike many of their contemporaries, do not have the means to visit college campuses throughout California and the East Coast. Campus trips open each student’s eyes to the various types of colleges, rural vs urban, large vs small, liberal arts focus vs STEAM focus, etc.; and help them decide where they want to spend their college years. Each tour is designed to visit schools that the majority of participants are most interested in seeing. The East Coast tour emphasizes Ivy League schools and is tailored for those students who have a realistic change of admittance to the most selective Universities.  Teens who have gone on this tour have realized that attending an East Coast tour is a possibility; and as a result, previous participating teens have applied to and been accepted at Yale, Princeton, Brown, NYU, Fordham, Boston College, George Washington, and Wesleyan, Duke, and Drexel. Many teens want to stay in California, but they cannot find the means to tour colleges outside of San Diego. Our Northern and Southern California campus tours have visited universities such as Claremont McKenna, UCLA, Stanford, Pitzer, Pomona, Univ. of San Francisco, UC Berkley, and many more. Many of our teens choose to attend these schools after graduation. Thanks to A Bridge for Kids donors and supporters, the students we work with have been able to attend these campus tours, free of cost; and find the right college for them that will allow them to pursue the career of their choice and ultimately create a successful and bright future.
