A special shout out to Grooveline (instagram: @groovelinesd) for bringing the energy and playing some great throwbacks, to Omar and Christian for cheffing up over 500 tacos, and to all the volunteers who made the day possible! Something that made this event particularly special was that it brought several sponsors and students together for the first time. Due to the pandemic in recent … [Read more...]

Where are They Now

“I am most proud of getting out of my comfort zone since high school. I used to be afraid of getting out of my shell in high school to go explore different things the world has to offer. However, in college, I studied abroad in 10 different countries and truly "lived and experienced life". I took every opportunity presented to me and am no longer afraid to try anything new or be out of my comfort zone.” Nghi P Dang Nghi’s story begins in Vietnam, 1998. At the age of three, her parents made the decision to move to the United States - a … [Read more...]

If you live in San Diego, you've most likely found out that everything is around a 20-30 minute drive apart. Where Are They Now: Iris Hinh

This week’s student spotlight is a personal story of growth in the toughest of times, triumph over self doubt, and learning to not be afraid. This story of resilience belongs to Iris Hinh, whose sponsorship started during her junior year of high school at West Hills in 2014. Typically, I would have taken the major points from Iris’ responses and put it into article format, but Iris’ story writes itself. So without further adieu, please enjoy this inspirational journey. Can you tell me a bit about your life growing up? My parents were born in … [Read more...]

Sponsor Needed! Jude Qaddoura – Escondido Charter High School

My name is Jude Qaddoura, and I'm currently a freshman at Escondido Charter High School. I’ve lived in Escondido for my entire life, with the exception of some surrounding cities and staying in Jordan for a few months. My parents, both hard working immigrants, came to the United States around the age of 18, and have worked hard to get to the point where they were able to support themselves and start a family. Growing up I struggled with anxiety and had to find ways I could work around it, meaning I had to give myself the confidence to go out … [Read more...]

Helping young people in need... succeed!

Testimonial

"Simply put, the work done by ABFK has opened countless doors for me and has provided me with an extremely supportive community that above all else wants to see students succeed. Through my sponsorship, I have been able to participate in varsity athletics, pursue my passion for music and poetry, and most importantly, has made me more confident in myself and my ability to succeed in any area I set my mind to."
