There has Never Been a Better Time to Sponsor a Teen!

What does it mean to be a sponsor for an A Bridge For Kids teen? It means that you can provide financial assistance that will lessen the financial burden on an already stressed teen and that teen can buy supplies to create an exhibit that will allow her to enter a Science Fair. It means that a teen can buy new athletic shoes rather than wear the hand me down shoes that are torn and worn down. It means that a teen who has never left San Diego can take one of the college campus tours ABFK offers, free of charge, be exposed to a variety of … [Read more...]

As the saying goes, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade. And this is exactly what A Bridge For Kids has done. We continue to roll along, interviewing San Diego teens in record numbers and getting them sponsored by generous community members like yourself. Yes, we are making plenty of lemonade; as we have found new ways of moving our mission statement forward. While schools are closed and counselors are no longer available to nominate ABFK candidates, we have tapped the many successful students currently in our program and asked them to … [Read more...]

Class of 2020 Attending Their Dream Schools

A Bridge For Kids is celebrating a record class of 54 seniors who, like many of us, have battled through a very tough last few months. Sadly, many if not most, will not experience a graduation that allows them to personally walk to the stage and receive that coveted high school diploma. Nevertheless, their accomplishments have not been lessened; and we are very proud to announce the colleges they will be attending and the scholarships they have received. While 14 students are attending schools in the UC system, the rest of our teens have set … [Read more...]

Billy Nguyen, a senior at Lincoln High School, beat over 200 other contestants on his way to winning the 8th Annual A Bridge for Kids Essay Contest. This year, students were asked to address something they had done in their life that they were the most proud of. A panel of 15 judges reviewed the essays using a diverse set of criteria including the writer’s … [Read more...]

Angelina Gonzalez Shatters Record in Winning Week #3 of The Quarantine Games

The first two weeks of the Quarantine Contest were dominated by Inela Diaz and Karime Corcoles of Steele Canyon High School.  This week however was a different story as Angelina Abraham Gonzalez, a sophomore at The Preuss School, UCSD, shattered the previous best score (Karime-530) on route to an easy victory and the $1,000 first prize.   As if knowing Pineapple was the favorite pizza topping and Cookies and Cream the favorite ice cream wasn’t impressive enough Angelina somehow knew that exactly 30% of people … [Read more...]

Helping young people in need... succeed!

Testimonial

"I am most thankful for the hope ABFK has brought to me this year. With the coronavirus occupying most of my life nowadays finding out about ABFK and what it does has made me hopeful once again about my future and getting into a great university. Quarantine has allowed time to learn more about myself, but it has also allowed time for doubt to creep in: Doubt on getting back to school and attending a college. I felt like the progress I was making in 9th grade slowed to a stop. My future hopes and dreams seemed bleak since I was stuck. I felt unmotivated. Then I learned about ABFK and applied. I was excited and hopeful. When I learned about my sponsor, I was even more excited; not only because I had been sponsored, but because I knew her. This is another thing I am thankful for. And I’ve been talking with her each week and learning more about her. I look forward to our weekly calls and I feel more ambitious and motivated because of it. So, thank you ABFK even if this is just my beginning with you, you have already made a big impact on my life and I look forward to more life changing events in the near future."
