A Bridge for Kids made a trip to Gompers Preparatory Academy this week to award $1,000 sponsorships to 5 deserving students. These teens had been previously interviewed by A Bridge for Kids volunteers and identified as potential candidates for a sponsorship. Kiara Gomez Wins 4th Annual Essay Contest and $2,000 First Prize
Our annual essay contest has been a great way for us to get to know underprivileged teens on a personal level and reward them for their articulation. Started in 2011, we have been able to reward over 150 students all over San Diego with sponsorships. With these sponsorships, A Bridge for Kids teens have been able to purchase basketball shoes that have won CIF championships, paint that landed them in prestigious art schools, prom dresses that allowed them to fully experience high school, take part in college visits, and so much more. College Tours Provide Life Changing Experience
On March 21-23, 8 students, Rose, Fu’ad, Jasmine, Paulina, Linh, Jimmy, Andie, and Ana got to visit the USF, SJSU, SFSU, UC Berkeley, Stanford. On March 28-30, 7 students, Eric, Lizbeth, Isabel, Quynh, Natalie, Christina, and Thao were able to visit UC Riverside, the Claremont colleges, USC, and UCLA. The Holiday Season Just Got Brighter for Local Foster Youth
A Bridge For Kids was honored to partner with The La Jolla Country Day School to organize “The Giving Tree” program which provides Christmas gifts for over 400 Forster Care Kids and low income teens in San Diego. Thanks to the generosity of staff and families at The La Jolla Country Day School, this annual program allows families to choose a child and grant them a wish by providing the child with a gift that he or she has requested. Casino Night Raises a Record $160,000
Everyone was all smiles throughout the night as A Bridge for Kids hosted it's 3rd Annual Casino Night- Cirque de Paris at the Country Club in La Jolla. This year's event showcased the organization's growth and development of new programs aimed at "leveling the playing field" for at-risk youth. Congratulations to Lisette Diaz, a student at the Preuss School UCSD, and her Del Mar Sharks club soccer team, for a first place showing in a recent soccer tournament held in Mexico City, Mexico.
