A record number of supporters helped raise a groundbreaking total of over $250,000 at the A Bridge for Kids 9th Annual DreamMakers fundraiser on Saturday, November 13th.

The amazing evening was highlighted by the inspirational story of Tony Chau, a first generation immigrant from Vietnam, Claremont McKenna graduate and ABFK alumni. “That’s brave,” shouted a person in the crowd, as we learned that Tony dreamt big and was inspired to apply to universities outside of the UC system after his College Trip with A Bridge for Kids.  During his speech Tony asked the audience, “What if you can change the life of someone today who may not have the same resources you do? Raise your paddle tonight to make a difference and truly make an impact.” His question empowered the audience and soon people began to make generous donations by raising their paddles.  A record $65,000 was raised during this portion of the program.

The live auction also broke a record by raising close to $100,000.   5 nights at stunning Villa Savina in Cabo received a winning bid of $18,000, another all-time high for the live auction! Other bidders   competed to win a VIP weekend in Las Vegas with private air transport and penthouse accommodations, a Wine Country and Spa Experience in Sonoma, an epic ski vacation at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, a San Diego Padres all-inclusive game experience, a stay in the Presidential Suite at the Hacienda Del Mar in Cabo, and an all new African Safari Adventure.

To end the night, guests were asked to exchange their casino chips for tickets to be used to enter a drawing for 5 different gift baskets.  ABFK student volunteer, Anthony Snapp, drew raffle tickets and awarded the winners with their gift baskets, bringing a close to the most successful DreamMakers ever.

Thanks to everyone who made this event so special.  Your generosity will allow A Bridge for Kids to continue providing life-changing programs that will help “level the playing field” for low-income teens in San Diego.  If you would like to learn more about how you can provide support to a teen in need please contact Grace Jo @ gjo@abridgeforkids.org.

Helping young people in need... succeed!

Testimonial

"Simply put, the work done by ABFK has opened countless doors for me and has provided me with an extremely supportive community that above all else wants to see students succeed. Through my sponsorship, I have been able to participate in varsity athletics, pursue my passion for music and poetry, and most importantly, has made me more confident in myself and my ability to succeed in any area I set my mind to."
