A Bridge for Kids Sets Record for Sponsorships in October

As the saying goes, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade. And this is exactly what A Bridge For Kids has done. We continue to roll along, interviewing San Diego teens in record numbers and getting them sponsored by generous community members like yourself. Yes, we are making plenty of lemonade; as we have found new ways of moving our mission statement forward. While schools are closed and counselors are no longer available to nominate ABFK candidates, we have tapped the many successful students currently in our program and asked them to nominate classmates and friends who they believe would greatly benefit from the services we offer. The support needs continue, stronger now than ever; and our teens have a pulse on their peer community and have proven to be a continued source to bring us together with these new teens.

In April, we reached out to the students we work with, and asked them to submit nominations. Who else knows better how our program can benefit their peers? And they enthusiastically supplied us with an impressive list of names. In fact, we have conducted close to 100 phone interviews and have awarded 50 sponsorships over the past 6 months, many from those most recent interviews. This fall, the nominations have continued to come in with a new record number of “at-risk” kids waiting to be sponsored.

What does this all mean?  In the most difficult environment most of us have ever lived through, where the needs are the most pressing for the students we support, A Bridge for Kids is on pace for another record year.  Now more than ever, your help is needed to make a difference in the life of a San Diego teen. Help us set a new record in 2020!   If you are interested in sponsoring one of our teens, please contact Grace Jo at gjo@abridgeforkids.org or click here to make a potential life changing donation.
