A Bridge Forward Program Helps Expand Mission

What is more exciting about awarding a deserving teen a one year sponsorship? Awarding FIVE deserving teens each a four year sponsorship valued at $4,000 per teen. Thanks to a generous grant A Bridge For Kids received from the 5 Together Foundation, we have been able to expand our mission of identifying and supporting high achieving, low income San Diego teens who have demonstrated potential in academics, athletics, and/or the arts, by developing a new program entitled A Bridge Forward.A Bridge Forward is an expansion of our sponsorship program, providing 5 ninth grade students with guaranteed sponsorships over a four year period, providing them with a $1,000 sponsorship each year and a mentor to help support and guide them throughout their high school journey into college. Additionally, they will have guaranteed access to and participation in all A Bridge For Kids programs, including college campus tours, SAT/ACT prep classes and financial support for tutoring.Over the last 6 months, we have interviewed over 50 ninth graders in search of five candidates who best demonstrate both academic excellence and a clear direction as to how they want to pursue a successful life. After careful consideration, we have chosen the five candidates who we believe will most benefit from this program. Each teen has identified a career path they would like to pursue and has demonstrated interests and talents in extracurricular activities such as sports, arts, and community service.  These students come to us from San Diego schools, including The Preuss School, Hilltop High School, and Gomper Preparatory AcademyWe want to express our deep appreciation to the 5 Together Foundation for partnering with us and trusting us to utilize this grant in a manner that will enrich the lives of five deserving San Diego high school freshmen.
