A Record Breaking Year...and It's only October!!!

When one door closes, another opens. This has been the mantra of A Bridge For Kids since Covid closed most San Diego schools starting in 2020. This year, an open door yielded a record number of over 80 new teen sponsorships and it’s still only October!

Since inception, A Bridge For Kids has visited San Diego schools and conducted personal interviews with teens to find candidates for sponsorship. Nominations from teachers, counselors, and parents, have introduced us to high achieving, low-income teens. With the closing of schools, that source of nominations significantly diminished, yet most of the needs for sponsorship did not.

It became apparent that ABFK needed to find a new source for identifying deserving teens to sponsor, and what better source than our own family of sponsored teens. We asked currently sponsored teens to look at their friends and classmates and identify low-income, high achieving, talented, peers who would be good candidates for sponsorship. Without hesitation, they responded, and the nominations came pouring in.

Unable to enter schools, ABFK volunteers spent many hours conducting phone interviews to find standout candidates for sponsorship. Much to our delight, we have found a significant number of outstanding teens. Additionally, the San Diego community has come forward and expressed interest in donating funds to sponsor these teens and support ABFK programs.

We are very pleased to announce that 2021 is a record breaking year; as we have sponsored our highest number of deserving high-achieving, low-income San Diego teens in one year. When one door closed, A Bridge For Kids found another door to open.
