Bringing a Smile to Foster Youth This Holiday Season

Bringing a Smile to Foster Youth this Holiday SeasonA Bridge for Kids and a team of volunteers collected  gifts that are sure to bring a smile to the faces of over 400 Foster Care kids throughout San Diego County this holiday season.  Today we collected gifts that included bikes, iPods, laptops, too many games to mention and even baby clothes that was the lone request made by a teen mom for her one-year-old son. Each of these gifts was donated by a family at the La Jolla Country Day School, in support of local foster youth.IMG_5261_3Even though there is a $50 suggested gift amount, many LJCDS students teamed up with their Advisory groups and collected money to make some of these extra special wishes came true! Several groups bought presents for kids, up to 19 years old, that needed house hold items for their first apartment.  One young man received a new microwave and another will be receiving a comforter for his bed this holiday season. Everyone has shopped like crazy the last three weeks filling over 400 wishes that will likely be the only gift these kids get this season!IMG_5263Many of the kids supported through this effort are in group homes where they will spend the holidays without family.  It literally takes 100’s of hours, 100’s of generous families, many, many volunteers and a few special angels to make this all happen and for everyone that was involved this year we are thankful.IMG_5237While the Giving Tree has officially come to a close for this year it is never to late to give a “hand up” to a teenager in need.
