La Jolla Country Day Senior Gives Back Through Technology
During interviews for potential sponsorship, one of the first items on almost every teen’s wish list is a computer. Imagine what it is like doing homework without a computer at home. Teens need to either stay late after school, completing homework and assignments on a library computer; or they go to a local public library after school to work. Either way, they are not able to work at home and find themselves staying out until late in the evening just to keep up with their schoolwork. In an effort to address this problem, a great partnership was formed when Cameron Khoroushi, a senior at La Jolla Country Day School, and A Bridge For Kids came together with a common cause, to donate much needed computers to low income San Diego teens. Since the seventh grade, Cameron has been refurbishing Apple computers and reselling them. But, Cameron also wanted to donate eleven of these computers. Cameron told us, “My plan was to donate these iMacs to an orphanage or an underprivileged school in San Diego that could really benefit from these refurbished iMacs.” With the help of his school’s Community Service Coordinator, Susan Nordenger, he found out about A Bridge For Kids.A Bridge For Kids has identified teens who are in need of computers to help them reach their potential at school; and together with Cameron, provided IMacs to these students. Now these kids will not only be able to do their homework at home, but they will also be able to store all of their work on their own computer. And best of all, they now have the "hand up" they need to succeed in school.
