May 2014 Newsletter

Friends of A Bridge for Kids,I’d like to start off by saying thanks to everyone for your continued support of A Bridge for Kids. April was a record month for us as we awarded over $25,000 in sponsorships to 20 teenagers throughout San Diego County.   You can read about many of the emotional award presentations in this month’s newsletter. If you have any doubts that your donation to your favorite non-profit is really “making a difference”, I think your concerns will be answered as you read this portion of one of the many thank you notes we have received recently: “Your generous contribution brought my mother to tears of Joy, and left me in almost disbelief that someone would be kind enough to help me. I still want to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor, and following in the footsteps that my father once walked.”In addition to strong growth in our sponsorship program, several of our students just returned from our first annual Campus Crawl in Northern California; and what a success it was! Students were able to visit numerous colleges, meet with advisors and even spend a few nights in a dorm.   Most of the seniors made their decision of which school to attend “on the spot”, while a few others were able to make a more informed decision a few weeks later. The success of our California trip has made our juniors that much more excited for our East Coast Crawl in July. Finally, I continue to be amazed by the quality of students our volunteers interview on a daily basis. Close to 200 teens have been nominated this year, and we have met with each and every one of them.   We have posted many of their stories on our website, but if you have time to read just one of them please read about Triet, this month's “teen in focus”. Triet was just accepted, full scholarship, to the prestigious Summer Academy in Applied Science (SAAST) at the University of Pennsylvania, and we are looking for donors to help pay for his airfare and incidentals so that he can partake in this wonderful opportunity. Thanks again to all of you who have helped us turn so many dreams into reality! Michael NanceFounder and CEO
