Mission Complete for Gompers Student

Isabel Garcia is a senior at Gompers Preparatory Academy and will be attending the Parsons School of Design in the fall. With her heart and passion invested in art, she decided to complete her senior project with art as the focus. Isabel painted a mural with students from Horton Elementary. This mural project took up most of Isabel’s school year. In September, she started brainstorming and organizing, but did not finish these steps until the end of February. By the time March came around, Isabel dedicated the whole month to talking to the students. She worked with them in their mornings before school or afternoons after school during their Prime Time program. (Fill in gap for April-May) By early June, the mural was completed.File_004 (1)The idea behind the mural is “heroes”; its purpose is to “demonstrate the importance, impact, and positive effect[s] that superheroes and art have in a child’s life.” There are four superheroes that are on Isabel’s mural; these four superheroes “were created by the students based on what they felt would help Southeast San Diego.” Isabel named her project, “Saving the Southeast”. The context of this project comes from Isabel wanting to “give to [her] community… [She] thought of how this generation… is changing and how the kids… are so knowledgeable… [and] aware… [She noticed] how the youngest ones are still learning and [she] thought of superheroes and how influential and impactful they are. So [she] wanted to reach out to the kids and show them the importance of taking care of where they live with the help of superheroes.”File_002 (1)A Bridge for Kids is proud to have been able to fund this amazing gift to the community and an inspiration to all!File_002Congratulations Isabel!!!
