Why Mentorship Matters

We’ve all had that one teacher, scout leader or a friendly neighbor who inspired us to achieve a goal or realize a dream. For Maya Angelou, it was Mrs. Flowers who insisted that she read every book in the school library. With Mrs. Flower's encouragement, Angelou discovered poetry in the musty aisles of a school library that was no larger than a telephone booth.

At A Bridge for Kids, our mentors see the value in every student’s dreams. They believe that every student should have the opportunity to succeed no matter their household income, the neighborhood they grew up in or whether or not their parents attended college. Now more than ever, we need to support students who have not grown up with the myriad of resources and advantages required to succeed in high school and beyond.

Mentorship above all else, choosing to donate your time and experience to a student in need has the potential to change a student’s life forever. We ask that you, like Mrs. Flowers, Maya Angelou and countless others choose to be a leader, a mentor, and a friend to a student in need.
