Preuss Student Keeps Fighting to Achieve His Dreams!

My entire life I have lived in San Diego. My parents are not from the United States and are from Mexico. I have only been to Tijuana once, but that one day I want to be able to go to my parents’ hometowns because my parents have always told me their stories about how beautiful it is. My parents really went through hard moments in there life. My mom and dad sacrificed their lives to make our lives better so we can have more chances in life like the ones they didn’t have. They did everything for me to make my sister and my life easier and more successful.

This makes me want to take advantage of everything I have to be successful in my life. This also made me see that not everything is easy and simple, you have to work for it and show people that you deserve this and maybe more. My parents have shown me that you have to work for everything and be a person that doesn’t give up and keeps on fighting for their dreams and be able to succeed. There was one day that made me see why my parents really love my sister and me. My sister has an issue in her hip and had to have multiple surgeries. One day that was really special to me they couldn’t go because of my sisters surgeries. That day it was my promotion from elementary school and they couldn’t make it. I was really sad and I thought I wasn’t important to them and thought that I was just a boy until I got to the hospital with my sister. My parents told me so happily, “THAT’S MY SON!” and “I’M SO PROUD of YOU!”. I was really happy when I heard those words that made me feel special.

From that day on I always had been trying my best in school and soccer to always push myself forward to be more successful and break my limits because I believe that there are no limits to anything, only if you let them be there. I always believe that I can be really good at school and have good opportunities.

I am applying for this scholarship because my family is a low-income family and my parents don’t have a lot of money to buy my supplies for school or new technology that I need to succeed in school. We are really short on money for rent and I need a scholarship that can help me with school and other things related to school. Also, I want this scholarship because my sister had told me that this scholarship really helps her to be successful in school. Her name is Yadirha Villegas, and she has received the same scholarship for three years in a row. Another reason I want this scholarship is that I am on the Varsity Boys Soccer Team at the Preuss School UCSD and sometimes my parents don’t have enough money to buy my equipment for soccer. Additionally,  I would like to use this money for school reasons and this might help me by having a computer at home and be able to do my homework on time. Thank you for your time, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have this scholarship.

Testimonial

"When I was sponsored that stress was taken away and I was finally able to concentrate on studying and learning the content that I needed to know. Not only was I able to pay for my AP exams but I was able to buy my first ever laptop. This laptop is an even bigger blessing now because of what is happening to our school system due to the pandemic.”
