Sponsor Needed! Daniel Yiv, The Preuss School

Hello!
My name is Daniel Yiv. I like to play soccer and learn new things in my free time. I’m 15 and currently in my first year at The Preuss School UCSD. I am a family of 4. I live with my aunt, my younger brother, and my parents. My parents came to the US because of the civil war happening in Cambodia. My parents went to the US with little knowledge of American culture. They worked long hours at various jobs and soon later became hairstylists. My parents try to give me the best life possible by giving me extracurricular classes and resources to succeed in school. Not only did they try to make me excel in school, like when I recently skipped two years of math when the school only allows me to skip one year, but I also played various sports like ice skating, badminton, and soccer.

When I was younger, I wanted to be a doctor. After I learned about business and marketing, my passion switched to business and marketing. It interests me because I learned a lot about propaganda in the 5th grade at my school, and learned that I could use certain materials to market or brand anything from a nonprofit to a multimillion-dollar business. I would love to be a corporate communications director because it allows me to be creative and positively influence a company through marketing. To become a corporate communications director, I  would like to attend Rice University’s School of Business and earn a Bachelor’s Degree in business. I would also further my education by earning an MBA and using this degree to help me gain leadership roles in my career.

A Bridge For Kids could greatly help me with my academics. With the scholarship money, I would spend it on a new computer because it is getting old and overheats a lot, causing me to be unable to submit assignments sometimes. Accessories for my laptop such as a laptop protection case would be great because I don’t want my computer to break, and it will make my computer more personal. A new computer would help me stay on top of my assignments, and also it can help me get introduced to more scholarship chances. I would also use the money for soccer because my soccer cleats are starting to rip, and a new pair of soccer cleats would help me a lot.

A Bridge For Kids will be beneficial in the financial aspect and can help me with my SAT and ACT prep. This will help me get a good SAT score to attend my dream college, Rice University. It will also help me with academic support because I’m taking AP Statistics and AP English with the John Hopkins CTY program, and ABFK has academic support. Another reason why ABFK will benefit me significantly is that it will help me navigate the college navigation process. After all, my parents didn’t go to school in the US. Overall it will help me throughout the years with my academics and achieving my career goals. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Testimonial

"I am infinitely thankful for my ABFK sponsor. In my freshman year of high school, I was adamant about staying in California for college. My sponsor encouraged me to attend ABFK’s East College tour and I later ended up attending Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. As a high school senior, when it came time to pick which college to attend, I had my heart set on Wesleyan but my parents strongly disagreed. My sponsor supported my decision in choosing Wesleyan and helped me convince my parents that it was the right decision for me to say yes to Wes. I am now a senior at Wesleyan and just accepted a full-time job offer - she assisted me in interpreting my contract, from salary to 401(k), stocks, and taxes. My sponsor has helped me navigate the benchmark points of the last eight years of my life, and I cannot thank her enough."
