Mkongwa- A Story of Personal Growth

My name is Mkongwa. When my family of nine fled the Congo, we lived in a refugee camp in Tanzania. It was then that I would imagine myself wearing a cap and gown and graduating from College so that everyone I know would be proud of me. Now, as I am starting my second year of High School, I am wondering how I will continue with my education and pursue that degree with my current financial situation. I believe education is the key foundation of life. Unfortunately, this education comes with a very steep price and I do not want to be another statistic or just another member of the workforce. While working is important, education and a career are my ultimate goals.

A Sponsorship from A Bridge For Kids would mean so much to me. It would mean I do not need to borrow school supplies and books from other classmates or spend my free time waiting in line at the computer lab for a free computer. I would not need to continue using the cheap calculator for my advanced mathematics classes such as Calculus and Statistics. This financial assistance would help me focus on the most important aspects of school that would otherwise be more difficult and allow me to pursue a my ultimate goal, a career in Engineering.

In addition to school, I like to exercise and I enjoy being active, staying fit, and just being healthy. I am on the track and field team at school and I also love to play soccer. Finally, family and friends mean the world to me. The sound of children’s laughter is my favorite sound in the whole world, so I try to hear it as often as I can. I am the third of seven children and I enjoy spending all of my free moments with my family.

My reason for requesting a sponsorship is so that I have money to attend an Engineering camp for 5 days in Santa Cruz next summer. I would also like to purchase a calculator, school supplies, books for school, a used computer, track shoes and a tutor for the classes I struggle in, especially English.
