Hello, my name is Roberto. I am 15 years old and a highschool student at The Preuss School UC San Diego. I am currently living with my mom, my grandma and grandpa as an only child. My grandparents immigrated here to the US with their 3 children (my mom, aunt and uncle). My mom works very hard to get me the things I need, like school supplies, soccer cleats, books, and the internet. As you all know, there was a worldwide spread virus called Covid-19.

Due to this virus, almost everything had to be shut down, and everyone had to stay inside. At first people thought it was only going to be for a few months, but after we started to know more about the virus we all realized that a few months was an understatement. Schools had to be shut down and they had to find an alternative, that's when online school became a thing. Students had to sit down in front of a screen for hours and hours. This affected me a lot, I had no motivation to even get out of my house, there was no motivation to stay active during what seemed to be eternity. The only thing that I felt like I could do was just wait. With all this "waiting" I kept getting bored, sometimes what I do when I'm bored is eat. Doing this I gained a lot of weight, but still it wasn't enough to get me motivated to start getting active again.

My mom started doing whatever she could to get me to be active again. She would take me to the beach and we would just walk. Then, we would go on runs, she would sign me up for strength and conditioning classes. With all of this help from my mom, I started to see how my body was changing how I just felt better everyday. I was starting to get more motivated little by little. I would get up early in the mornings to go work out with my personal trainer, go to school and play soccer and after school I would go to a boxing class with my mom. This isn't my routine for everyday but it's what some days were like. I didn't mind it at all, the reason for this was because I was feeling better about myself everyday, mentally or physically.

The money is just a small part about this sponsorship that will help me get to where I want to be. It's also all the educational centered opportunities. With the money I could be able to pay for more sessions with my personal trainer, I could pay for more boxing classes. I would also be able to pay for more school supplies like books that I really want to read, notebooks, pencils and more. With the educational opportunities I could get guidance on my college application process, I could have a tutor to help me in classes I'm struggling with. With all of these resources, I will take advantage of them and not only to help myself but also my family.
