Cameron

My name is Cameron and I am in ninth grade. Stepping into high school with the extra load of responsibilities has taught me how much my parents do for me. As a child, I never fully realized the commitment and dedication of my parents. I knew that they worked hard, stayed up late, and were constantly looking after me, but never knew what that really meant. My parents love me with all their hearts and do everything they can that will be beneficial for my life. They sacrifice their wants, time, and money to provide the best opportunities and activities that will help me succeed. However, everything that comes with college, like tutoring, admissions, and money is proving itself to be the greatest challenge that I have ever faced.

From a young age, I spent lots of time outdoors. My family would go camping every summer. We would hike or bike every week. I was taken to many national parks, and saw the beauty of our world. Through this, I have grown a passion for nature. While my friends and many youth around the world are on their computers or phones, I now spend all of my free time outside. I race mountain bikes, go camping almost every weekend, and if time is limited, I’ll go for a run. The outdoors has always called me, and I can never get enough of it.

Right now, I am currently part of many extracurriculars. In the Fall, I run cross country. As the first official school sport I have participated in, I have found like-minded people and peers with whom I have grown strong friendships with. Running helps me get fit and have fun. During the Winter and Spring, I mountain bike for Nighthawks Cycling. This program has helped me thrive in a sport that I love so much. The coaches always have great instruction that helps me improve, as well as hard but fun training plans to keep myself and my teammates exhausted. Third, over the course of the whole school year, I am part of an adventure troop called Trail Life. This faith-based troop has built up my character as well as providing another set of great friends. We camp every month and learn life skills. Right now, I’m working on a service project to provide food to those who are in need of extra help. All my extracurriculars are fun and something I enjoy doing.

Similarly, school is something that I find great joy and happiness in. I find learning a fulfilling and engaging experience that makes my mind feel good. I love to learn about anything and everything, and school is amazing because of that. For example, I am currently taking AP Art History and an introductory engineering class. Learning about the impacts of certain pieces of art on society has been a mind opening experience. Likewise, acquiring new skills such as problem solving and computer aided design from engineering has been really fun. As a freshman, I currently have a 4.25 GPA. I work very fast to maximize the amount of information I can acquire, because as I said, I love learning! In addition to academics, I’m the president and founder of our Mountain Biking Club. Our club meets every other week and we hang out, talk trails, and advocate for the future of mountain biking. I am also part of our school’s FCA and CyberPatriot clubs. In all, I am very involved in school and enjoy all of my classes.

To pursue all of my sports, activities, and schoolwork that lead to college, there are lots of places where I could use some support. A sponsorship from A Bridge For Kids will help me continue to participate in all of my sports and extracurriculars that help shape me into a better person. Whether that is buying gear, paying team fees, or getting personal fitments, I definitely would benefit from the financial support and experiences that A Bridge For Kids offers. More importantly, a sponsorship from A Bridge For Kids will help me work towards getting into a good college. The whole process of preparing, applying, and planning for college is a novel concept to me, and so support in any shape or form would be greatly appreciated.

Over the summer, I got a chance to visit many colleges, but am stuck on my dream school: Stanford. I was amazed by the campus, the school spirit, and the history revolving around the school. My hope is to get into a good college, like Stanford, to set up a great future for my life. If A Bridge For Kids could be a part of my life equation, I believe that my chances for a better future would be greatly increased. My parents have done all they could to give me a leg up in my future life. Now, I am ready to take the next step and would love it if A Bridge For Kids could be a part of that. Thank you for your consideration.
