Jorge
Hi, my name is Jorge. I am 15 years old and I am currently a sophomore. I heard students talk about A Bridge For Kids but never understood what it was until recently. A teacher at my school asked me if I wanted to be nominated for it. I was confused and asked what it was. When she told me, I was ecstatic, it sounded like such a great opportunity!
I have many hobbies, I would say I am more active than the average person. I love running, playing soccer, going to the gym etc. When it comes to inside hobbies I love reading, baking and playing my guitar. I enjoy reading books that teach me life lessons or are based on true stories. It gives me the urge to accomplish the same thing. I feel like my hobbies make me who I am. They encourage me to go above and beyond not just to be satisfied with doing the minimum.
Growing up I had what I needed: food, clothes, tv, education. But when it came to things like soccer cleats or club fees it was really difficult to afford so I stopped playing on a team. It was clear to me early on in life that you have to sacrifice the things you love in order to keep living.
My family is pretty big. I have a father and mother that were both born in Michoachan, Mexico. My father came to the States first, got comfortable and brought my mom along with him. I am the youngest of three and my siblings all were fortunate enough to attend 4 year universities with a scholarship. I want to be just like them.
I'm looking forward to becoming a doctor or a nurse. I find joy in making people happy and I can really make non social people come out of their shell. I know it is difficult when patients have to talk to their doctors or nurses about their health. That’s why I want to be there and help them and make them feel like it's a safe place. The medical field also interests me because I will understand diseases and sicknesses more and I can give my family access and to certain benefits that I wasn't able to have when growing up.
If I had $1000 I would put it towards my AP exams, sports equipment, and school supplies. I think it's around 50 or 25 dollars a year, so I would be saving myself a good 50 or 100 bucks by using that money towards it. When it comes towards sports equipment I would be saving a fortune because just the shoes or soccer cleats cost an arm and a leg. I might also be able to join a club with that money. I have had the same highlighters for three years and they are starting to run out of ink so some new ones wouldn’t do any harm.
