Meet Meron: A Future Pediatrician with a Heart for Helping Others

Meron is an 8th grader at The Preuss School UC San Diego with a dream of one day becoming a pediatrician. Her inspiration comes from a deeply personal place—watching her grandmother’s battle with cancer and seeing the impact that compassionate care and determination can have on someone's life. From a young age, Meron understood that kindness and medicine could change lives, and she knew she wanted to dedicate her future to helping others.

Meron’s journey has not been easy. Growing up in a low-income household and adjusting to a new life in America, she witnessed firsthand the sacrifices her parents made to provide her with better opportunities. These experiences instilled in her a powerful work ethic and a heartfelt desire to give back—not only to her family, but to her community as well.

Outside the classroom, Meron is already making a difference. Volunteering at a homeless shelter left a lasting impression on her, teaching her the importance of compassion and the value of truly seeing and supporting people who are struggling. These moments strengthened her commitment to a future in healthcare, where she can use her talents and her heart to make an impact.

After high school, Meron plans to attend UC San Diego or UCLA, majoring in biology or pre-med before eventually heading to medical school. She is determined to work hard, stay focused, and achieve her dream of becoming a children's doctor.
