A Not So Ideal Situation

Some teenagers are more worried about buying the new hot item out there in the market, where I just worry about the price and thinking about how long this item would last me. As I grew up I had no idea how expensive electronics and or items were, as a seven year old little girl I would beg and beg for a laptop not knowing how much it would affect my family’s economic situation. Sooner or later, my parents were able to save up the money to buy one, thinking it would be the same speed and quality it was when they bought it but little did I know it would still be in my home today. From the unemployment, to the hospital bills, my family was struggling to keep a roof over our heads. My dad has lost his job three different times. This set up the time where all we would use money for is food, and my mom would work more hours to be able to provide for the family, while my dad is unemployed. This unemployment epidemic also happened to fall during a time where both of my grandparents were hospitalized. With my dad losing his job, multiple times, and both of my grandparents hospitalized, this was not the ideal stance for my family. With me being a sophomore in High School now, I’m starting to think about what I want to be. My dream is to pursue a career in the science or medical field. How I grew up led me to realize that I want to pursue a career in those fields because, my parents scavenged for money to take my sister and I to visit the doctor and keep us healthy. Although they tried their best to keep their children healthy, they couldn’t really afford to take themselves to the doctor. I want to be able to not only help my family stay healthy, but help out other struggling families to stay healthier than ever. This goal wouldn’t be able to come true, if I can’t finish my homework some nights or, maybe if my computer decides to be extra slow the night where I need it the most. My dream is to be a family doctor, or a neuroscientist, and seeing this generation I grew up in, some of the best information is not only in textbooks, but it is online also!If I were to receive A Bridge for Kids sponsorship, I would buy a new laptop. I’ve had a laptop since I was about 7 years old, but it was not technically mine, I would have to share with my sister, and parents. Some nights I would need to type an essay out, or use the computer for research, and so did my sister. This made it really hard for me to finish my work sometimes, I would have to go to school the next morning and head to the library and finish my essay. This was not convenient, considering the school bus will get to school late sometimes. I would also like to use the sponsorship money on new school uniforms, considering that I have been wearing my uniforms for about four years, and they cost quite a lot. A sponsorship would help me achieve my goal because I might finally have some help to buy items I need for school, and not struggle to buy the necessary items to be successful.Give Audrey a "hand up" today...make a donation to A Bridge for Kids
