Miranda- No Goal is to Ambitious
Hi, I'm Miranda. To tell you a bit about myself, I'll have you know I'm a nerd. Yes, I think school is fun and I've always been one to excel in academics. I've been blessed with an aptitude for math, but my true passion lies in the arts. These may seem contradictory to some, but that's why I've decided to pursue architecture, a career that would, in mind, be a perfect blend of a methodic calculating mind and my creative spirit.I come from a low-income family where I live with my older sister, dad and mom, who is deaf. My mom's deafness has created its own obstacles in communication mostly, in addition to the financial hardships I've faced throughout my life. But I wouldn't change any of it because it's only through these challenges that I've been able to grow and mature as a person.Although my family doesn't have the resources to create a lot of opportunities for me, it's through people like you that I've been able to come this far. My sponsorship helped fund a trip to Minnesota, to visit Carleton College, as well as pay for the registration fee of an amazing leadership camp I received a scholarship for and attended in LA during the summer.ABFK helped me in so many ways, both significant and subtle. The money, of course, was a huge benefit. But I also gained a friend. I was fortunate enough to meet my sponsor and develop a relationship with her, and I found that we had quite a bit in common. A Bridge For Kids has also had a huge impact on me. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, they took me and some other kids on the college tour of the east coast this summer. That was a huge deal. I can say that trip alone set my sights even higher than they already were.I'm now a senior in high school with my own achievements and some pretty lofty dreams. I've done ASB all through high school, played volleyball, ran track, and tutored kids every week for community service. I've held a 4.0 GPA, taking all the advanced classes I can. Now I'm frantically applying for colleges, including four Ivy Leagues. I say all this, not to brag, but to show how far I've come with the help of ABFK. Because all this can be really hard to do when you have money always in the back of your mind. I know that without AFBK helping out with things like covering fees for my AP tests, and introducing me to these East Coast colleges, I would not be where I am today, headed in the direction I'm going. I can only hope that I might one day be able to repay this organization in some way for its generosity."Congratulations to Miranda on winning Questbridge Scholarship. She will be attending Princeton University in the fall of 2015. Go Tigers!
