Star of the Month: Fernanda Salazar

In an impressive display of determination and talent, Fernanda Salazar has overcome various obstacles to achieve significant milestones in her academic and personal journey. A Bridge for Kids Star of the Month serves as a platform to highlight our students' experiences and accomplishments. Let's delve into the list of Fernanda’s noteworthy achievements:

First and foremost, Fernanda’s keen interest in the field of business led her to successfully complete a rigorous leadership and entrepreneurship course at UC San Diego Extended Studies. Despite the challenges she encountered along the way, she emerged triumphant with an A+ grade and gained invaluable experience in the realm of entrepreneurship.

Fuelled by a strong desire to engage in an international learning experience, Fernanda applied to a Pre-College program offered by Putney Student Travel at the beginning of the year. Her dedication paid off when she received the thrilling news of being granted a full scholarship. Consequently, this summer, Fernanda will embark on an educational journey at the prestigious University of Oxford, where she will be focusing on business and global diplomacy.

In addition to Fernanda’s scholarly pursuits, she has consistently showcased exceptional academic capabilities throughout the school year. Despite a demanding schedule filled with various extracurricular activities, her commitment to striking a balance between schoolwork and personal interests resulted in an impressive 4.25 GPA. Furthermore, her unwavering work ethic garnered three distinguished school awards: the Spirit of Preuss, the Visual & Performing Arts Department Award for AP Art History, and a place on the Principal's Honor Roll.

Seeking new avenues of personal growth, Fernanda decided to join the Model United Nations club at the start of the academic year, despite initial hesitation due to their lack of prior involvement in such activities. Over the course of the school year, she actively engaged in the club's activities and became a passionate advocate. Recently, during the club's officer elections, Fernanda’s deep involvement led her to run for a position. After delivering a compelling speech and awaiting the vote tally, Fernanda received the exciting news of being elected as the Preuss MUN Secretary of Media & Outreach for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.

Lastly, Fernanda participated in a memorable Chamber Music Recital organized by the Suzuki Music Association of California. Accompanied by accomplished string players, they captivated the audience with a stellar piano performance of Fur Elise. “I had a wonderful time, yet again, listening to my peers perform and sharing my own progress. All went well and I hope to be joined by the string players again at next year's event,” said Fernanda.

These outstanding accomplishments reflect Fernanda’s remarkable dedication and passion for personal growth and academic excellence. With her inspiring achievements, she continues to set an exemplary standard for her peers. As Fernanda’s journey progresses, it is clear that she is destined for continued success.
