ABFK Goes to the Grand Canyon!

As you may know by now, 7 months ago, we kicked off our Health & Wellness Program with the intent to get our students introduced to new hobbies, stay active, and learn about the importance of health and nutrition. Since then we have gone rock climbing every month, ice skated several times, had a beach volleyball tournament, nutritional seminars, and more! By attending events students were able to receive “Health & Wellness Points”. The more points you accrued, the better chance you had of earning a spot in a 4-day trip to the Grand Canyon.

In today's fast-paced world, the importance of fostering positive experiences and building strong connections among the youth cannot be overstated. A Bridge for Kids has been dedicating its efforts to enhancing the lives of young individuals by providing them with unforgettable experiences in addition to assisting our students academically. To reward the hard work and dedication of six exceptional students, A Bridge for Kids organized a trip to the Grand Canyon. This excursion was not only an opportunity for the students to witness the majestic beauty of nature but also a chance for them to bond, learn, and grow together. The trip aimed to instill a sense of wonder and appreciation for the world around them while fostering lasting connections among the group.

As the students embarked on their journey to the Grand Canyon, excitement and anticipation filled the air. For many, it was their first time venturing to the Grand Canyon, making the experience all the more special. For most, it was the longest car ride they had ever been on! The trip was carefully planned to include a mix of educational, and outdoor activities.

Along the way, the students learned about the geological marvel of the Grand Canyon, its history, and its significance in shaping our planet's past. The main highlight of the weekend was, undoubtedly, the Grand Canyon itself. We woke up early and drove into the canyon while it was still dark for a sunrise hike. Witnessing its vastness and grandeur left the students in awe, igniting a newfound appreciation for the natural world. One of the students mentioned that this was their FIRST-ever hike! The breathtaking sunrises and sunsets painted the canyon in a mesmerizing palette of colors, etching memories that will last a lifetime. John Muir said it best, “In the supreme flaming glory of sunset the whole canyon is transfigured, as if the life and light of a thousand centuries of sunshine stored up in the rocks was now being poured forth as from one glorious fountain, flooding both earth and sky.” Thanks to this trip, everyone who attended is now very well acquainted with our friend John.

The weekend spent at the Grand Canyon with A Bridge for Kids will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the six students' lives. Not only did they gain a deeper appreciation for nature and science, but they also developed friendships and bonds that will endure over time. The experience reinforced the importance of community and mentorship in shaping a better future for themselves and others.

None of this would have been possible without our donors, volunteers, mentors, and supporters. We thank you all so much for your continued support and for making this dream come true.
