Star of the Month: Sabrina Haji
Sabrina Haji, a high school student at Preuss School in San Diego, California, has accomplished an impressive amount at a young age. Despite facing challenges such as being the oldest of six siblings and having immigrant parents, Sabrina has found her passion in running, entrepreneurship, and photography.
One of Sabrina’s most notable accomplishments is her involvement in the school’s cross-country and track teams. After running cross country for two years, Sabrina became the captain of the school’s team and started an initiative to get middle schoolers interested in the sport. As the captain, Sabrina has become a leader within the team and community, putting effort into getting to know everyone on the team and accommodating the team’s needs.
Sabrina’s involvement in the track has also been noteworthy. She joined the school’s first-ever track team and became the first varsity track captain in the school’s history. She runs the 800-meter race and has shown dedication to the team by putting thought into the workouts and practices.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Sabrina is also an entrepreneur. She is currently taking a social entrepreneurship class through UCSD’s extended studies program, where she is learning how to create businesses that positively impact society. Inspired by the class, Sabrina started a blog with a friend where they discuss weekly or monthly digests on what is going on in their lives. She is also working towards starting a podcast that focuses on students and their thoughts on events happening on campus, where they can give constructive criticism in a judge-free environment.
Sabrina’s entrepreneurship has also expanded to photography. She started by shooting sports games and pictures for her school's athletics website, but her love for photography has turned into an almost full-time job. Sabrina is now working to start a photography business that serves underprivileged communities. Her inspiration came from a social entrepreneurship class at UCSD, where she had to develop a business idea. Her idea was to develop a platform to tell the stories of first-generation low-income students. You can check out her portfolio Here!
Despite her busy schedule with athletics, school, and entrepreneurship, Sabrina has maintained a 4.13 GPA. She mentioned that finals were hard and stressful, but she utilized her resources and got tutoring in order to ace all of her finals. This determination and hard work are evident in all of Sabrina’s accomplishments.
Overall, Sabrina Haji is an inspiring young individual who has accomplished a great deal in her young life. Her dedication to athletics, entrepreneurship, and photography shows her passion for creating positive change in her community.
