Anthony

My name is Anthony, and I'm currently a 7th grader at The Preuss School UC San Diego. I come from a low-income immigrant family. I always want to strive to do my best and want to make my family proud. Growing up, I saw my parents sacrifice a lot for me to have education and food on the table. Recently my other mom, who lives in Mexico, recently lost her job and also got into a car accident, which made it hard for her to work and pay child support.

When I was 6, my parents divorced. I live with my 2 younger siblings and my mom, who lives in San Diego. My mom, took care of her 3 kids, who all go to different schools that support their weaknesses and strengths. She gave up her own room so that her 3 kids could have their own room and be comfortable. Despite her dad dying when she was 11 and also having a rough childhood, she worked hard. She doesn't want us to go through what she went through. So that's why she gave so much up for us to have a better life despite current events.

It's hard to be the role model of my two younger siblings. One has ADHD, and the other has autism, which makes it hard to be a good role model as the oldest. Home can be a distracting place to study. My little sister, who lost her hearing in one of her ears, has to talk louder, which leads the house to be a lot louder. It's hard to study because my sister always has some sort of sports game every week. My sisters are very athletic, especially my twin

sister (who is younger by two minutes). She mainly plays basketball but also plays soccer, softball, futsal, football, and many more that I can't remember.

My dream college is MIT, and I want to make a successful business from scratch. I have many hobbies, such as 3D modeling, 3D animation, 2D animation, crocheting, coding, game development, and graphic design. I also play soccer and volleyball for fun.

In high school I want to join the men's volleyball team. It has been hard to practice since I don't have a gym to practice volleyball. Many gyms, camps, and even teams cost money, which can make it hard to train. I and my family could only afford the one at my local rec center, but they suffered from not having enough volleyballs to practice with. I train every day in my room, which can be difficult because of limited space. Also, the gym was made for basketball, which made it hard to serve really high due to the short roof. I want to be successful so I can give back to my family as much as they gave to me. I want to work hard so the hard work doesn't go in vain. Thank you for reading my personal statement.
