Bianca
Born and raised in San Diego, Bianca comes from a family of hardworking immigrants who moved to the U.S. to provide their children with a safer environment and better educational opportunities. As a freshman at The Preuss School UCSD, she is determined to seize every opportunity available to her, striving for academic excellence and a future at a four-year university on a scholarship.
Her passion for marine biology was sparked at an early age during fishing trips with her father. While he taught her the practical skills of casting a rod and selecting the right bait, he also introduced her to the science behind the ocean - its currents, biodiversity, and delicate ecosystems. This early exposure to marine life instilled in her a deep appreciation for ocean conservation and a commitment to tackling pressing environmental issues such as pollution, climate change, and ocean acidification. She hopes to use her knowledge and passion to maintain the health of Earth’s oceans for future generations.
Despite financial hardships, Bianca remains focused and driven. She understands the sacrifices her parents make to provide for their family and has learned the value of resilience and generosity. Even when her family struggles to afford rent or groceries, she finds ways to support them - whether by lending money from her personal savings or quietly slipping extra cash into her mother’s wallet. Her selflessness and perseverance are a testament to her character and determination.
Academically, she excels with a 4.13 GPA while actively participating in school sports and clubs. As a freshman on the varsity girls’ lacrosse team, she is committed to improving her skills and earning a leadership role as team captain in the future. Beyond athletics, she is an engaged member of the robotics club, book club, and Latin American club, where she helps organize cultural events to celebrate diversity within her school community.
How You Can Build the Bridge
A sponsorship from A Bridge for Kids would be life-changing for Bianca. With financial assistance, she could purchase a laptop, allowing her to complete assignments outside of school and in places where technology is not readily available. She would also be able to afford essential lacrosse equipment - such as cleats, a better stick, and protective gear - which would help her train and compete at a higher level. Additionally, the sponsorship would ease the burden of school supply costs, covering necessary items like binders, writing utensils, and other classroom essentials.
By investing in Bianca, you’re not only supporting a talented student and athlete - you’re empowering a future marine biologist and leader who is determined to give back to her community and protect the planet’s oceans. Join us in helping her achieve her dreams!
