My name is Genesis. I am an incoming junior and I come from a first generation background, something I am proud of. I am the youngest of four and the first one to go to university. I attend Academy of Our Lady of Peace for high school. I have been set on my dream of becoming an immigration lawyer since 6th grade and my dream has only progressed. It's no longer a dream, it is something that will be my reality. As a result, I try to do things that I am passionate about during and out of the school year. I am currently part of my school's Mock Trial Team, Academic League, and Carondelet Ambassador, a program that represents my school which I am proud to be a part of.
As the name suggests, the school is a private school and, coming from a lower income family, it has been a struggle. I am there because of scholarships and financial aid which makes it possible to attend. Volunteering is something I enjoy because it allows me to meet amazing people. I frequently attend Hogan Infantil, which is an orphanage in Tijuana and volunteer at my local Recreation Center, where I recently got an internship.
One of the people I met volunteering at my local Recreation Center is America who has been nothing but supportive and is the reason why I was made aware of this scholarship. I have been a part of Just the Beginning and have completed a week-long law program which made my future feel more real. One of my goals for high school is to take every opportunity I have access to. This is something I have not been doing enough because of worries, such as finances.
With this ABFK sponsorship, I will be able to take opportunities such as AP exams which cost, as well as supplies that I need for school that I usually struggle to gather throughout the summer. I plan to lessen the stress for my parents this school year in general. Private schools cost a lot more than almost anything. Trips that can lead to something better 2 and uniforms. I would love to be able to lessen the burden on them as they work hard every day.
