Isaac
Hello, my name is Isaac. As someone of Mexican descent, I was born in San Diego, California. I currently attend The Preuss School UCSD, and am in the 7th grade. I am extremely happy that I was able to get the opportunity for the sponsorship. I believe that if I am able to get a sponsorship it will help me in school and help me in life overall. Having the sponsorship can help me with many things. Ever since elementary school, I have always wanted to do something impactful in my life. I wanted to do something that could change people’s lives and can make a difference in the world. I have always wanted to study along the lines of the medical field. Since I was five years- old I have gotten four surgeries with an upcoming fifth. Those surgeries that I have received were able to better my life in so many ways and were able to help me become a happier person and a better person overall. Experiences like these remind me why I want to be able to help others.
In addition to wanting to study in the medical field, I have always desired to go to the university of Yale. Lately I have realized what extent you have to go through to be at the standard at a school that is very prestigious. My family receives one income so it is difficult to be a part of things that can help me with school, like extracurriculars and tutors. I always try to be the best I possibly can in school. I always study and try to maintain straight A’s. I have progressed through my middle school years and I realize how difficult it will be. I always try to do things out of my comfort zone to gain new experiences and overcome challenges to help me learn what I need to. I am currently taking a class of Spanish 3 while many in my grade are starting by taking Spanish 1. As someone who does not speak Spanish, I am very proud to have accomplished this. Passing this placement exam was a very big accomplishment for me.
I have always challenged myself to a certain standard and I realized that it helps me to succeed. I always try to do things that will help me even in the long run. I always challenge myself to things out of my comfort zone, this challenge has not stopped me from going after what I want and has taught me a valuable lesson. I believe that this sponsorship could help me with school, extracurriculars, and tutors/mentors. I have two other siblings, one in her junior year, and the other being in preschool. It is difficult for my parents to be able to afford things I need while taking care of my siblings, myself, and grandparents all under one income. I would spend the money on a computer. I currently only have a school computer because my home computer broke. I use it frequently and I would need one for my upcoming years in school, it would be really helpful.
Everyday I go through challenges and I somehow am able to overcome them. In 5th grade I had a very impactful and challenging experience. My 5th grade teacher had blamed me for an extremely bad action and attempted to make me quit from safety patrol as captain of the team. Safety Patrol is a program that simulates how a cop would control crosswalks and traffic. She had forcefully made me send an apology letter to both the person that I “did” the action to and to my principle. It went to the extent that I got switched classes, I had to get support from past teachers and people checked on me daily to make sure I was okay. It affected me negatively in many ways mentally, it affected my later years in my life as well. At the start of 6 grade I had trouble talking to new people because of my mindset. It’s shocking how much 1 person affected my life. Now, I am very social and I’m able to talk to people I don’t know very easily. I could make new friends easily now and I’m proud of myself for overcoming that. I hope I am able to overcome new hardships and be able to become the best version of myself I possibly can and do things I really enjoy and want to do, like being a part of squash and attending my dream school.
In my free time, I like to study and learn new things that I did not know before. This is connected to many things like doing art and spending time with my family and friends. I also really enjoy spending time outside with my pets. My school doesn’t offer many extracurriculars, or clubs for middle schoolers, so I have to try and do it in my free time. I am currently in a youth group that helps me with my social skills, and I try to do things that can help me in school.
Thank you for taking consideration to know me better.
