Samuel
My name is Samuel, and I am currently a 14 year old eighth grader learning at The Preuss School UC San Diego. I enjoy learning about architecture, soccer, math, science, and more. I am a proud son of immigrant parents who have given me and my siblings the help and support we need, even if that means sacrificing a lot for themselves.
Growing up I have seen all the sacrifices and hard work my parents have done for me to be able to have the life I have. As immigrants, my dad has worked day and night for my family of 6 and myself, which has taught me to value everything and anything he gives me in life. My parents not only worked hard but also had to learn a new language, learn a new culture and adapt to a new “home.” One of the biggest struggles I have seen them overcome over and over has been the amount of financial stress, worries and pressure they can be under all at once. It breaks my heart because no parents should be under that much stress and worry all at once. Although any other people as US citizens can be stressed because of this as well, for immigrant parents it is much more difficult especially without a proper education making it difficult to even hold onto a financially stable job.
I thank my parents for all their sacrifices; because of them I have a better education and have more opportunities and I know I will have a better future as well. They have taught me to be determined, have faith and never give up on what I set my mind to. My success is not only for
myself but for them as well. They are the reason and my motivation to be where I am today. Here at Preuss I’ve been given the help that I need to be able to be where I am at right now. I am a hard working student who tries to do their best until the end even if that means overcoming challenges that come my way.
I am very pleased and thankful for this opportunity that has been given to me because I know this could benefit not only me but my family as well. Getting sponsored would mean less stress and worries and pity for my parents as well as giving me an easier, fun and more accessible path moving forward into my future. If I got the chance to be sponsored I would spend the money on school materials and athletic equipment, for example a more advanced laptop for my school work moving along, a TI 84CE math calculator, soccer cleats, and future school materials needed for college. After high school I would like to attend MIT or The University of California, Berkeley with a major in Architecture. In the future I would with my bachelors in architecture I would like to give back to my parents and other immigrant communities by creating homes for specifically low income immigrant families.
By getting this scholarship I will be able to prepare myself for the upcoming years of my future. Thank you very much for the opportunity that you open up to numerous students like myself
