Jasmyn

My name is Jasmyn and I was born Oct 28 2008 in San Diego California. I live in City Heights and have been living there practically my whole life in the same apartment for about 10 years with my mom, dad, and older brother. Aside from my neighborhood not having the best reputation when it comes to lots of things I am grateful to have grown up there because everyone there seemed to be the same and I mean it in a way where adults and children could relate to each other in both struggles and personal issues.

When I was in the 3rd grade I learned about a sport called escaramuza which is a sport where you gallop a horse in a choreographed manner to music. I got the opportunity to join a team that was here in San Diego so now my parents bought a horse, saddle, etc. It was hard learning but I persevered because this is something I wanted to do. But as years went by the sport started feeling more like a job or an obligation not only that but I was being bullied by exclusion. But I did not quit because in my mind I was already to a point where I was too into the sport to quit so I kept going. I kept going till in 2021 my team won the state championship which I am proud of but then decided to quit shortly after because the sport had given me a case of athlete's burnout and I wanted to focus on school since I was just about to head into my last year of middle school. I learned a lot about myself in those coming years. For example, I picked up some air clay and learned how to make small jewelry holders and then learned how to make small things like cats. That's also where my love for movies rekindled because I remembered that you can use air-dry clay to make an armature to make stop-motion films with it.

Now I am slowly learning to film stop motion so that one day I can make my stop motion film. Because of this, I started writing. The first time I started writing was because I had an Idea for a superhero whose name is Asafran. After I made her I decided I would come up with an idea for a stop motion short film which I now have; it's going to be about a man who climbs to the top of Mt.Everest and finds himself with a cloud person who shows him around above the clouds. At the beginning of this year, I decided that I wanted to find a summer program that would help me learn how to Photoshop, film, produce, etc, or even a program that specifies stop motion animation. I figured doing a summer program like this would help me make my short film but as I was looking for these programs I realized there was one issue, like my mom says nothing is free the program I wanted to do was the “Teen Filmmaker Boot Camp” at the Media Arts Center costed 300$ and aside from that spots filled up quickly. I hope that If I get into ABFK I can use this money and help to get into these programs to learn and better my skills to not only one day make my short film come to life but to help me start working on a portfolio for college. Aside from these two things, it would also help take a weight off my parents' back so they don't have to feel guilty for not being able to pay for these programs.
